Fellow Patriots,
Today, I received a phone call from a veteran family who told me the local VA suicide hotline was putting veterans on hold when they called to get help.
I just couldn’t believe it, so I called the hotline myself.
After being run through a few prompt options, I was forwarded to the national suicide hotline where I was put on hold for approximately 45 seconds before I got upset, hung up, and decided to document the situation in this video.
My producer called the national suicide hotline directly.
The first time he called, he ran through the prompts and then the call dropped after three rings. The second time he called it took roughly one and a half minutes to get a human on the line.
In my opinion, having worked with PTSD and suicidal veterans through my not-for-profit organization ‘Veterans United for Justice,’ this is just unacceptable and reforms need to be implemented immediately.
I ask that you please don’t call the hotline, as we don’t want to clog it up and make the situation worse than it already is, BUT I am asking you to please share this video all over social media.
Tag local, state, and federal legislators, the director of the VA, news media, and even President Trump. I know many people feel helpless when it comes to politics and policy, but there are some things we can change if we are loud enough. This is happens to be one of them. Please help get this story out there. Let’s see if we can get someone who has the authority to make changes to respond to us.
Is this normal practice? We need answers.
God bless you and may God bless the United States of America,
Mr. Douglas M. Ducote, Sr.
